Can't deny that two grand kids love playing in the basement both learned to ride tricycle in the large room, great place for hot wheels. Our youngest daughter moved in the basement with her husband while they finished college, Her husband had a bad accident at the end of his junior year of high school which placed him in a wheelchair. It doesn't stop him, he ride a motorcycle and goes canoeing on the rivers in the ozark. We built a ramp so he could reach the bedrooms and use the bathroom that is big enough to roll around in and a shower that also worked great for him. We added the small kitchen area in the large room so they could live independently. He loved that he could drive down to the basement level. We all learned a lot about ourself and how to live when life throws you a curve ball. This home is great for entertaining keeping in mind Jerry comes from a very large family, I recall one summer evening there was fifty plus for dinner, and over eighty for our oldest reception in the basement. The kitchen island works great for large crowds for dinner, nice buffet line. Where are your dirty clothes? By the closet, bedroom or your bathroom correct. So why not have the laundry by these clothes. This was a chance for Jerry to use his design skills which was a dream of his for a number of years to design and build a large home like he grew up in. Coming from a family of eleven, note he still has first home drawing from seventh grade. He was the rock when I had to deal with three different cancers during the last thirty-seven years. During the last battle of cancer he continued to travel four states for business worked with our daughter and still helped me make it through every day one step at a time. Also during this time he continued to design the home and how to place it on the lot and met the spring creek requirements. There was some kidding about why and where walls and things are placed in the home, keep in mind his back ground is furniture. Jerry looked at it this way, how would you live, work and function in the home every day. The home was framed by an Amish family from Seymour, which they were very meticulous in the accuracy of building. The basement walls are 16" thick and the framing was done 2" x 6" boards. One day Jonas gave Jerry a can of green spray paint to mark anything he questioned, well the can of paint was only used two times during construction. Jonas and is sons did an excellent job framing the home and roof it and placing these very large nine foot windows along the back side. We wanted all of the main rooms to look out the back or to the north looking into the wooded area, when the leaves are on the trees your view becomes very private. The view from April though October are great and nice and quiet. Year round you see some great wildlife deer and turkey, the east hill on the lot we call Turkey Hill because the turkey go up and down it almost every day. Also great for bird watching Blue birds and Cardinals nest in the front bushesdrink out of the fountain. Also we wanted extra space in the garage around the cars, with the lower garage all your shop stuff is not in the way of your every day life. The office on the main floor could also become a small den or changed to a bedroom, this thought of during the planning and drawing of the home. The unfinished area of the basement has been used for variety of things, crafts projects, artwork, exercise, storage for furniture sales aids. We could never decide if we wanted to make it extra family room, home theater room or game room. Will there is enough space to have all of this, or a bedroom and another bath.
